Counter-digital media literacy: practical tips
A secret pilot leaked from the convention floor in Winnipeg
Last week I presented this talk at the Media Ecology Association convention in Winnipeg. The presentation introduces a concept I’ve been working on: counter-digital media literacy. This is another reversal, this time a deliberate one: while traditional media literacy teaches how to use media, counter-digital media literacy teaches how not to use them.
The presentation is an outline of a work in progress that will soon be published as a book with a catalogue of practical tips, followed by the basic media-ecological principles that frame them. The working title is Counter-Digital Media Literacy: Practical Tips. For now, this is just a lazy blog post—mostly to see how the ideas look after being laid out. But anyone with comments or criticism is most welcome.
And yes, there is a lot of other funny stuff there.
